A Plan to Enrich Your Company
Many businesses, committed to doing their part to protect the planet, devise a sustainability strategy to ensure that that employees focus on reducing the environmental impact of their activities. Not all companies are succeeding in getting the most value out of their sustainability strategy, though, notes a recent report at GreenBiz. It cites a BCG/MIT report that states only 62 percent of companies have implemented a sustainability strategy.
Of these companies, 32 percent see sustainability as boosting their profit, while another 32 percent said they neither lost nor made money through sustainable practices. About 11 percent of companies said that their profits went down because of their sustainability efforts.
A company’s sustainability strategy may not be quite so successful if it fails to focus on the right areas, notes GreenBiz. Businesses can begin by asking what will matter most to them over the course of the next few years or decades. They may determine that it’s better to focus on the environmental impact of their products when they are in the “consumer-use” phase rather than in the production phase, for example.

Many prospective job candidates, especially those who are fresh out of college and have a heightened sense of environmental responsibility, will be attracted to work at companies that have a clearly defined strategy for maintaining sustainability. You can tout the advantages of working at your company in terms of setting yourself apart. It’s also a way to differentiate your business from the competition.
